Setup
Over New Year’s Eve, St. Benno Gymnasium should be more than just a school: it should become a place of community where everyone feels at home. To make that happen, the tech has to be set up, classrooms rearranged, and the cafeteria and hallways transformed.
All of this happens before the conference officially starts. So if you can’t get enough of the conference feeling, come a day early and lend a hand.
PS: Of course there’s plenty of time for relaxing and having fun on setup day too!
Teardown
On January 1, JESUSlive ends and everyone heads back home. St. Benno Gymnasium also returns to normal school life. But before that can happen, everything has to be taken down and cleaned up: tidying classrooms, rearranging the cafeteria, dismantling the tech, hauling away the sofas.
Of course it works best when everyone pitches in, but since some participants have a long way home, we need people who take charge so that everyone can be home in time for dinner.
Catering
Good food is part of every good conference. It’s delivered by an external caterer, but that’s not quite the end of the job, because good food also needs drinks, and that’s where you come in.
Before and during meals, drinks need to be put out on the tables so there’s always enough water and the like.
Cleanliness matters too. Participants leave their used dishes at the exit, and your team takes them on a cart to the kitchen, where the caterer washes them.
Decoration
JESUSlive in a school building? That’s probably not where you’d want to spend your holidays and free time, and that’s exactly why we need decoration.
And since St. Benno Gymnasium is big, there’s plenty of room to get creative and transform it, so that all participants feel at home and aren’t reminded of school and everyday life at every step.
First Aid
More than 200 people celebrate New Year’s Eve at JESUSlive. We don’t just sit around the whole time: we sing, dance and enjoy being together. Unfortunately, something can always go wrong, and that’s exactly why we need the first aid team.
So if you have experience in this area, you can get involved here and make sure that all small and not-so-small injuries are taken care of.
Photography
What would an amazing conference be without a way to capture the experience?
Photos are one of the best ways to make sure memories don’t just stay in your head but can come alive again and again, and that’s exactly why we want to capture JESUSlive in photos too.
So do you want to learn how to take great photos, or just let your creativity run wild? Then this is your chance.
Cleaning Crew
When more than 250 people spend 5 days in the same building, it’s unavoidable that things get dirty and need cleaning.
Don’t worry: the small groups take care of that, BUT of course they don’t know what to do. That’s where you come in. On the cleaning crew, your job is to be there, guide the small groups, and check that the toilets, hallways and showers are clean.
Now and then you’ll also get to pitch in when the main hall needs to be prepared for the next session and chairs need to be set up again.
Prayer
Through prayer we can move things and change hearts. And without God we can’t change anything, so we pray. In everyday life and during JESUSlive.
As part of the prayer team, you carry the conference in prayer, whether during free time in the prayer room or right in the session. When participants need prayer, they can come to you and talk to you. The prayer team is also often ready to pray for people during the sessions.
If prayer is close to your heart and you love becoming God’s instrument through prayer, then be brave and sign up for the prayer team.
Coffee
Of course, drinks aren’t only needed at mealtimes but throughout the day. That’s why there will be a small drinks bar with tea, coffee and water, and to make sure there’s always enough, we need people to take care of it.
Your job on the coffee team is to make sure the drink containers are always full enough, so no one goes thirsty.
Lighting
What would a dark stage be without the right lighting to illuminate it? And great music without the right lights to party?
We want to create atmosphere here too, and for that, spotlights have to be set up, cables laid and the light show prepared.
Motivation
JESUSlive is only possible because participants and volunteers get involved and invest their free time in all kinds of areas.
At the conference especially, there are many people working before, during and after the sessions so that participants can enjoy JESUSlive, and to keep these people going, they need motivation. That’s where you come in.
This is about creating a space where leaders can retreat to relax in between, but also about motivating the people who don’t have time to rest and enjoy right now with a little treat, e.g. a bag of gummy bears.
Welcome
The first thing you see of a conference is the entrance, with lots of people in one spot who want to get into the building as fast as possible to grab the best sleeping spots or simply see their friends again at last.
But before that can happen, tickets have to be scanned, wristbands put on, T-shirts handed out and, of course, every single person welcomed.
So if you always have a smile on your face and love being around lots of people, join the welcome team!
Security
When lots of people come together in one place, you need others who make sure everything runs smoothly and no one is left out. In other words: security.
Your job here will be, for example, to make sure at mealtimes that no one enters the hall and the cafeteria doesn’t get overcrowded. You’ll also check that quiet hours at night are kept, so everyone can get enough sleep.
Are you calm itself, can you handle stress, and are you able to stand your ground or make yourself heard when needed? Then maybe security is your calling!
Social Media
These days, hardly anything works without social media. Whether you want to quickly find out today’s schedule or see what’s going on at the conference because you sadly couldn’t make it this year: social media can usually help you out.
Of course, that only works if there are people who take care of it. So come along, get creative and make content with and for JESUSlive.
Sound
Imagine there were no microphones and no speakers. By the second session at the latest, the speaker would have lost their voice from talking so loudly. And music is so much better with a good sound system.
That’s exactly why we need sound engineering. If you’re thinking, “I’m interested, but I have no idea what it means to stand at the desk and mix during worship”, no problem! Just come along and learn!
Transport
JESUSlive takes place at St. Benno Gymnasium in Dresden, a school building that unfortunately lacks event equipment, sofas and much more.
So everything has to be loaded into cars at its original location, driven to St. Benno Gymnasium, and brought back afterwards. Sounds exhausting? But imagine you’re the one at a move who stands by the car, stacks the boxes and then drives the car from A to B. Sounds more relaxed, right? So join us and do exactly that.
Translation
JESUSlive takes place in Dresden, but not all participants come from Dresden and not everyone speaks German, e.g. this year’s speakers.
Every year we’re thrilled that young people from many different countries make the trip to Dresden to be part of it. But so that everyone gets something out of the conference, we need people who are gifted with languages and can translate. If that’s you, we’d love to have you with us!
Video
Compared to the main hall, the stage and especially the people on stage can sometimes look a bit small. To counter that, the stage is broadcast via camera onto the screens.
If you’ve always wondered what it feels like to stand behind the camera or sit at the video mixer like on TV, this is your chance.
